16th October 2024 – (Hong Kong) On the evening of 13th October, police received a report from a 53-year-old manager of a currency exchange shop, who claimed to have been threatened by a man wielding a knife at the intersection of Lai Chi Kok Road and Kweilin Street in Sham Shui Po. The assailant attempted to snatch a handbag containing HK$1 million in cash from the victim.
During the incident, two vigilant bystanders intervened, successfully restraining the robber and preventing the theft. The suspect managed to flee the scene in a getaway vehicle parked nearby.
Following the incident, police in the Sham Shui Po district launched an investigation and located the suspected getaway vehicle in the vicinity of Golden Hill Road. Further inquiries revealed that the vehicle had been used by a garage employee, who allegedly committed the crime while utilising a vehicle left for repairs by another individual.
On 14th October, authorities arrested a 49-year-old local man on charges of attempted robbery. He has since been provisionally charged with the offence and is scheduled to appear in West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on 17th October.
