New Delhi: A syndicate manufacturing fake Indian currency notes was busted in Paharganj, police said on Monday.
Three people, including the alleged manufacturer and two suppliers, were arrested and fake currency with a face value of Rs 3.9 lakh was found along with raw materials for printing.
The central district police team executed the operation after receiving intelligence about a syndicate circulating fake Indian currency.After an investigation that included manual and technical surveillance, police identified key members of the racket.
On Aug 8, the police got specific information regarding a delivery in Paharganj.
A police team was deployed to the area, laying traps at strategic points. Around 6.40am, police saw two suspects on a brown Scooty. The passenger was holding a grey and sky-blue bag. After monitoring their movements, officers apprehended the duo when they attempted to leave. When police searched the bag, 40 bundles of counterfeit Rs 100 notes, amounting to Rs 3.9 lakh was found.
The suspects, Fazil and Mohsin, both 19 years old, disclosed their involvement in supplying fake currency. They said they had obtained the notes from Mohammad Jubair (26). Based on this information, police conducted raids across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and caught Jubair this month.
During interrogation, he revealed that he was introduced to counterfeiting by a man called Gabbar, who connected him to Aslam, currently imprisoned for offences related to fake currency circulation.
Jubair disclosed that he had paid Rs 30,000 to Aslam for machinery and raw materials, including a printer, to learn the printing process.
Initially, Jubair made counterfeit notes in small quantities for circulation in local markets. However, as his financial needs grew, he expanded his operations. He is wanted in another fake currency case in UP. Jubair identified Aslam as a kingpin in the network. Police have found 38,989 fake notes, a printer and 2 vehicles used in the racket.
