Officials make historic drug, currency seizures in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio officials said two separate drug and currency confiscations in central Ohio are believe to be the largest seizures made the state’s history.

Attorney General Dave Yost said Central Ohio OOCIC/HIDTA Major Drug Interdiction Task Force agents and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers made the seizures on Aug. 3 and Aug. 6.

On Aug. 3, task force agents and troopers stopped a commercial vehicle on I-70 in Madison County. Officials found 300 pounds of methamphetamine, 17.6 pounds of cocaine and 30 pounds of marijuana, which Yost said the approximate street value of all the contraband combined was $14.6 million.

On Aug. 6, officials stopped a commercial vehicle that was thought to be involved in drug trafficking on I-70 in Clark County. They seized more than $935,000 in currency.

In comparison, OOCIC’s major drug task forces seized just 349 pounds of meth and nearly $5.5 million in currency total in 2023.

“Drug traffickers intent on delivering destruction to central Ohio should take note – our task force and our partners are watching,” Yost said. “Kudos to our task force officers who worked to get these dangerous drugs and ill-gotten profits off our highways.”
