Tirupati: A Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) staffer landed in trouble after he allegedly siphoned off 6.5 lakh worth foreign currency at Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple at T Nagar locality in Chennai. The temple is managed by the Tirupati trust.
Recently, during a vigilance enquiry, it emerged that a senior assistant named Krishna Kumar, working at the TTD temple at T Nagar had siphoned off foreign currency notes during the Parakamani (Hundi counting exercise).
Following a detailed enquiry report submitted by the TTD vigilance dept, TTD EO J Syamala Rao placed senior assistant Krishna Kumar under suspension with immediate effect.
While the Tirupati trust is set to initiate criminal proceedings against Krishna Kumar, TTD vigilance department is trying to find out if others working at the temple had also connived with the accused in the Parakamani scam reported at the Chennai TTD temple.
It may be noted that after the Lord Balaji temple at Tirumala and Goddess Padmavathi shrine at Tiruchanoor, the TTD temple at T Nagar in Chennai registers highest pilgrim footfall and Hundi collections among the group of TTD temples located across the country.
